A Word from the Creator

This was a brand awareness project I had made for SwingU. We shot it at the Palm Beach Par 3 course with one of SwingU’s pro ambassadors, Chris Wiatr. This was shot solely on the Irix 30mm 1.5 lens paired with a Sony Fx6.

There’s a few reasons why I chose to use the 30mm for this project. I knew I was going to have a lot of closeup handheld motion so I wanted something wide enough to buy me space in the frame for my subject to move and swing while remaining narrow enough to not have to worry about my background too much since we were running and gunning with the remaining light. The lens was new to me at the time so I just wanted to jump in head first with it and get to know it. And lastly I like to limit myself in terms of lens choices for shorter project like this and force myself to be creative on the spot to get different shots. I’ve found that technique makes me try different camera movements and experiment as well as narrow my focus in preproduction and on set.

Seeing the final product in the edit really affirmed my decision that the 30mm was the perfect lens for the project. I had seen some of the flairs in my monitor in playback but I really fell in love with the flairs this lens produces on this project, to me they look so smooth and add a great touch to the image. The texture of the bokeh is also something to marvel at. I really liked what it did to the back-lit palm trees. And just the 30mm focal length itself is just so pleasing to look at, especially with how quick the lens is - it’s like everything I love about a 50mm but in a wide angle. I’m looking forward to using this lens more and exploring more Irix glass in the future.

The Irix Cine 30mm T1.5 is available in 8 different mounts, ensuring compatibility with a wide array of camera systems. This lens is meticulously crafted to provide a remarkable degree of flexibility and adaptability on set. Boasting a large T1.5 aperture, it excels in low-light conditions, capturing crisp and luminous footage even in the most challenging environments. Furthermore, the lens is designed with weather sealing, making it resilient and reliable during outdoor shoots. Whether it's a serene landscape or a dynamic scene, the Irix Cine 30mm T1.5 is a dependable companion for filmmakers striving for perfection.
