John The Best Cine Lenses for Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 (Feet): Fantastic Cinema Macro Lens
5 out of 5 stars
For the price, this lens rocks! If it were three times the price it would still rock! There's plenty of YouTube video reviews of technical specs, but creatively, I found that this lens gave me a cinematic (subjective, I know), shallow depth of field with crisp focus. Definitely need a focus-puller and stability, but even without the latter, you can pull off some interesting shots. This will be a holy grail lens for product filmmakers, but it's extremely capable of pulling off some narrative shots. Some test footage: https://vimeo.com/509993097
Matthew Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 (Feet): workhorse of a cine Macro

The IRIX 150mm is an excellent choice for those looking to capture highly detailed, true-to-life close-ups. Its magnification ratio means you can get incredibly close to your subjects, rendering them in life-size on the screen, which is perfect for both professional and creative projects. The T3.0 aperture ensures that you have flexibility with light, working well in both bright outdoor settings and more controlled indoor environments. This lens is built to last, with a robust, weather-sealed construction that can handle a variety of shooting conditions without breaking a sweat. The focus and aperture adjustments are smooth and precise, which is crucial for making those critical, on-the-fly changes during a shoot. Image quality is where this lens truly shines, delivering sharp, clear visuals with beautiful background blur that helps your subject stand out. It's equipped with features like geared rings that are compatible with follow-focus systems, making it an excellent fit for professional video production. While it's a bit heavier and requires manual focus, the quality and versatility it offers make it a worthy addition to your kit. Overall, the IRIX is a solid investment for filmmakers and videographers seeking exceptional detail and build quality in their work.

WILLIAM D. Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 45mm T1.5 (Feet): My favorite lens
5 out of 5 stars
I love the lens. It is beautifully crafted and sturdy. The weight of the lens will take a bit of getting used to so I don't suggest using it without mentally preparing for the weight or having a stand if you don't want to hold it. There is no image stabilization but that is to be expected; however, the smooth focus and aperture are amazing. They allow for a really really precise image whether photo or video. This is my favorite lens.
Carlos Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 (Feet): Beautiful lens that produces great images.

I shoot surgical/medical and thus needed that reach (compared to the Rokinon 100mm macro I was using before) in order to remain non-invasive to a health care professional's space. I also wanted a cine version of a macro so this was perfect and really there is no other option other than another 100mm macro cine lens. The images coming from my Fuji X-T3 with this lens are fantastic (rigged as shown using an EF to X-mount adapter). Feels like a solid lens. Not a fan of the magnetic hood but I use a matte box so no biggie. Lens cap and mount cover do suck, they feel like they could break from a drop. Focus ring is smooth but the iris ring is much looser in comparison, I wish they had the same tension.

Great neutral image which allows you to create the look that you want. Would like for Irix to fill out their set though. They have a limited selection of cinema glass. What a shame.

Dennis Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 30mm T1.5 (Feet): Quality and performance!
5 out of 5 stars
I've had many lenses over the years, I often researched what others liked or believed what YouTube videos said, but this time I decided to make a choice and decide for myself if this lens was for me. From the moment I opened the box of the Irix 30mm T1.5 RF version, I knew I had made the right choice. The weight of the lens, the position of the gears and the out of the box colors paired with my Red Komodo left me speechless. The lens handles light just the way I've been looking for, and the look the lens adds to the already amazing image quality and color accuracy of R3D made this lens for me a winner. I highly recommend this lens, especially if you want a true cinema lens and desire quality and performance at an outstanding price point. Will definitely purchase more from this brand in the future.
Tony Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 (Feet): Great Quality & Value
5 out of 5 stars
I purchased the IRIX 15mm, 45mm, and 150mm as a set. The image quality is sharp and excellent, the focus and t-stop rings work smoothly and quietly, and the build quality is first class and aesthetically beautiful. I particularly like the water sealing most other brand lenses in this price range do not have. Focus breathing varies between the lenses but minimally and I'm quite happy with them. As other reviewers have mentioned, the curved lens cap is the only disadvantage, preventing positioning any lens face down on a surface with the lens cap on, but that's a minor issue against the superb overall package these lenses provide.

Neill Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 21mm T1.5 (Feet): Our preferred lens series
5 out of 5 stars
In over 40 years of industrial and feature film making, the Irix primes are my favorite series of prime lenses, favored over the big name lenses that cost 4-5x. They are fast, sharp, have very natural-looking out-of-focus highlights, and the sealing is a bonus for those like us, who shoot a lot of exteriors. Hopefully Irix will soon offer something in the 65mm-85mm range so we can relegate our current short telephoto to the B camera lens set.
Richard Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 30mm T1.5 (Feet): Solid, sharp, character

What more could you ask for in a lens. I was very skeptical at first as I work in film production and we rent lenses all the time. I wanted something that I could use for my red that could live on the camera for run and gun doc work. This lens has blown me away in the short two days I've used it. It is very sharp and has this unique look to that reminds me of having a pro mist filter on it. The build is heavy and strong and feels like a mini tank. I've gambled with lenses for 5 years and am very happy with this purchase. I will be buying more. Thanks Irix!!!!!!! You guys rule.
Van Canon RF Mount Irix Cine 11mm T4.3 (Feet): Amazing field of view with controlled distortion
5 out of 5 stars
This is a rectilinear lens with incredibly low visible distortion for an 11mm. Going through rooms there is no warping of vertical lines. A little stretching occurs towards the edges, especially at full frame, but that's no different from any other lens in this focal length. The build quality is great. The front element does extend out beyond the lens a bit, but in my 3 stage matte box I can still fit a single filter in front of it - and that type of element is necessary for an 11mm full frame lens. Switching to the IRIX 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 Cine Lens from the Canon 100mm macro photo lens significantly enhanced my macro videography capabilities. The added 50mm focal length allows for closer, more detailed shots and a comfortable working distance, ideal for intricate scenes. This lens incorporates cinema-grade features, including a T3.0 aperture for superb performance in various lighting conditions, and precise control over focus and aperture, elevating the cinematic quality of your footage. The lens's build is both durable and weather-sealed, ready for any shooting environment. Its sharpness is a standout feature, delivering crystal-clear images that showcase the finest details of your subject. It's a powerful tool that combines creativity, control, and quality, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to step up their macro video production.

FAQ

Do cine lenses have better image quality?

Cine lenses have superior glass that produce sharp images with little to no chromatic aberrations or visible vignetting, which are sometimes present in images taken using photo lenses. However, both types of lenses can't avoid barrel distortions, especially in video where it is more noticeable.

Is RF glass better than EF?

TL;DR: RF lenses are designed for the future. They offer better functionality and control than the EF lenses, and you can also expect better optical quality than EF lenses of the same class. With more design flexibility, RF lenses are also mostly smaller and lighter than equivalent EF lenses.

Can I use EF-S lens on RF mount?

Using EF-S lenses on the RF mount Canon's EF-S lenses are designed for EOS cameras that have smaller APS-C-sized sensors, but you can still use them on the RF mount via an EF-EOS R adapter. You'll need to line up the white index marker on the lens with the white mark on the adapter.

Do cine lenses make a difference?

A cinema lens has the superior ability to maintain focus on a subject while zooming—even if it is moving. Sturdy and durable enough to withstand most outdoor conditions, cinema lenses record continuous motion and have features that allow you to bypass many problems that occur with photo lenses.
