A few weeks ago, we showed you footage, captured during a trip by part of the European Irix team, capturing breathtaking landscapes and testing the limits of our equipment in some challenging weather conditions. From the serene Yosemite to the harsh terrains of Death Valley, this trip was a testament to the durability and performance of Irix lenses under extreme circumstances. The adventure began in the majestic Yosemite National Park in central California. However, the team's plans were thwarted by inclement weather.

Death Valley: The Ultimate Challenge

The real test came in Death Valley National Park. Known for its unforgiving climate, Death Valley lived up to its reputation, presenting the team with fierce winds and an onslaught of sand and dust. This scenario was the perfect proving ground for Irix lenses, which stood up remarkably well to these harsh elements. The team managed to secure some stunning shots, showcasing both the resilience of their equipment and the harsh beauty of the valley.

The Sand Dunes: A Test of Endurance and Skill

Moving on to the sand dunes, the team faced yet another challenge. The sandy environment pushed the Irix gear to its limits, but the lenses continued to perform exceptionally, capturing the unique landscape of the dunes in all its glory. For those eager to see this part of the journey, the team included a timestamp at 1:05 in their vlog.

Gear Overview

The Irix team was well-equipped for this adventure. For video work, they utilized the 15mm T2.6 with the Red Komodo 6k, a 21mm T1.5 with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, and a 45mm T1.5 on the Sony A7R III. The wide focal lengths were particularly effective in capturing the vastness of Death Valley and the dunes. To enhance the cinematic quality of their footage, Irix Edge MMS Vari ND 2-5 and Irix Edge MMS ND4 SR filters were employed.

For still photography, the team used the Nikon D850 along with a range of wide focal length lenses including the 11mm f/4.0, 15mm f/2.4, 21mm f/1.4, and 30mm f/1.4. The Irix Edge IFH-100 filter holder was fitted with filters like the Irix Edge 100 Soft Nano GND8 (0.9), Irix Edge 100 SR Hard Gradual ND8 (0.9), and Irix Edge CPL 95mm SR.

Conclusion: A Journey of Discovery and Triumph

This trip was more than just a showcase of scenic views; it was a demonstration of the Irix team's passion and the robustness of their equipment. Facing adverse weather and challenging landscapes, the Irix lenses proved their mettle, enabling the team to capture incredible images and videos. This journey was a fantastic experience that highlighted the freedom and creativity Irix lenses afford, even in the most demanding conditions.
